Last week the afternoons brought some pretty heavy downpours that seemed to appear at about 45 minutes before home time and last a good hour or so. One such day I realised it was going to be a race against the water flow that I follow downstream for about 10km as the banks were showing signs of nearing their capacity. On a regular day the creek is quite a slow running flow that picks its way around a few rocks, even seeming to dam at a couple of points. The first warning that there would be a more steady flow was further upstream where the path crosses from one bank to the other using a paved culvit. This is slightly raised above the natural ground level but was already 5 to 10 centimetres under water. As more tributaries fed into the main flow the creek became more like a river, swamping the bike path in several places. At one point the water was too deep to ride across so the only option was to wade across with the pushie over my shoulder.
