taking the long way home

With a forecast for a couple of fine days it seemed a waste not to ride to work. Ordinarily I would jump on the roadie for this but i have been lending the roadie to my sis to help her achieve her first triathlon goal, making it the mountain bike option. Using the amazing powers of focus and ambition I took advantage of the fine afternoon to take the scenic route home. There are many options of direction to head but it had been a while since I had ridden the fire road trail to One Tree Hill. This is a solid 20 minute grind but a great way of working out where the fitness sits and leads to a great fun descent. Once I had ticked it off the list of things to do I made my way up to Tecoma to set up for the ride down to Birdlands Reserve. From here I went across the ridge to and caught these views across the valley between Lysterfield and Ferntree Gully - why wouldn't you take the long way home??
From here it was an easy drop into Lysterfield, to follow a link of trails to take me to the top of the '06 Commonwealth Games circuit and into Churchill Park. From there I put together some more trails to get me back to the Dandenong Creek tracks and onward to home. Not a bad way to finish the work day, and a great primer for the group MTB ride the following evening.
